Starting your journey at Bowlers
Settling in at Bowlers
To ensure a smooth induction for the children and parents, we support the children to settle by;
Getting to know our nursery
Children are invited to visit our setting and to stay for short sessions to explore our indoor and outdoor areas and also to get to meet the team and their key worker.
Getting to know your child
The teacher or Senco along with an Early Years Practitioner visit new families at home in the weeks prior to starting Bowlers Nursery. During the visit a ‘All About Me’ form is completed by the staff and parents to give us as much information as possible about the child.
Supporting a smooth transition
Children who have not attended any Early Years setting before may need to be phased in to ensure that the child feels safe and secure within the setting. We will work together to devise a plan to support the child to settle in attending shorter sessions building up to the allocated time session over time.
Key Person for each child at Bowlers Nursery
Every child will be assigned a key person when they start at Bowlers Nursery. The key person will support and tailor the learning and development to suit the individual child’s needs. The key person will also liaise with parents and support home/nursery learning.
The Key Person will also be responsible for;
Setting termly children’s targets alongside the Early Years teacher
Planning, contributing and lead on focus led activities
Supporting children’s next steps through child initiated planning
Bowlers Nursery working in partnership with parents
We believe that parents and carers are the child’s first and most enduring educators. We therefore work with parents and carers as partners in their children’s learning. We value our ability to build up and develop a close working relationship between home and nursery involving parents in their child’s development as much as possible.
Some of the ways we encourage this are:
Visiting the child and parent at home if they are new to Bowlers Nursery prior to starting
Parents and key workers have the chance to chat informally at the beginning or end of each day. Parents are welcome to make appointments at any time if they wish to discuss anything in greater detail or privacy
Parents have parent consultation evenings once a term to discuss their child’s progress and to set targets
The Early Years Teacher communicates the Book of the week and song/nursery rhyme teaching at the end of each week through Tapestry
Regular communication with parents through emails and/or Tapestry
Parents are invited to support fundraising and community nursery events
Parents have access to their child’s online profile at home
